If you have just been looking at power consumption, then something wrong with you XD
It is no point it having 6 cores if it has a huge power consumption and higher operating temperature does it?? In single threaded applications it is nothing special but in multithreaded software it will of course do much better since it has 50% more threads than a socket 1366 Core i7.
The decent power consumption means it should be able to be overclocked well within the TDP of a 45NM socket 1366 Core i7 using existing motherboards and also indicates that the 32NM process is not a disaster for bigger chips. Hence it means that a 32NM Core i5 and Core i7 should have a lower TDP and higher clocks! Remember process shrinks do not always yield positive results like with the Prescott Pentium 4 with regards to power consumption.
Looking promising - I'm hoping to get a 32nm Sandy Bridge CPU this time next year though :P
Whats the betting that these are going to cost an absolute fortune when they come out!
That linked article seems to have been removed how did gulftown do in the review?
The article in the link has been taken down!
Power consumption was around the same as a socket 1336 Core i7 IIRC despite have two extra cores.
Both processors were at the same clockspeed.
Removed until some time in 2010......
grrr
A preview is still on pcgameshardware: Link
Why oh why??????????? So I buy a nice cute little 920(D0 stepping) and then Gulftown comes and rolls over my 920. Can anybody tell me why? I know what I'll do: I get a gazillion core cpu and then it will be future proof, or will it?
Ok rant over :) hehehe
Most applications these days are barely getting to the level where all 4 cores are utilised so I guess I would only need such a processor when more applications are better multi-threaded.
True True, but think of the joy of increasing your intel core bragging rights to XXXXXX:)
errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :)
Although I did have one more thing to check, if i am using the x58 chipset, so, LGA 1366, I should be able to upgrade to the i9 in future right?
Will just say this: yay!
Anyone got a mirror for this?
