    Best laptop for £350-£400?

Recently got asked to recommend a laptop for under £400, more than prepared to admit I am rather clueless having always been a desktop computer person. Can anyone knowledgable recommend something?

It won't be used for playing games or anything that requires lots of graphical power, will be used for internet browsing, multimedia playback, email and editting office documents. Does have to be a windows based machine.

Can't really go wrong with a Dell. If you look at the Studio, Inspiron and/or Vostro range you should find something suitable.

Take a look at this site which does a good job of summarising the lastest deals. (Just click the link to access the deals for a particular range).

My brother has just bought a new 15" Studio laptop which is pretty decent (although he paid over £400).

Acer are probably your best bet at that price range. Having looked at this recently just make sure it comes preloaded with Windows 7. At this price point a lot of resellers are flogging Vista laptops (upgradable [at a cost] to Win7) at cheaper prices.

    Have a look at:

I've recommended a lot of Dells and the Studio range of laptops are good. However, you won't get a Studio 15 for less than £500 and the Inspiron laptops at the £350-400 range are cheap and nasty. They have very poor batteries and overall build quality isn't a patch on the Studio. I'd avoid a cheapo Dell personally.

I would check this website for Dell laptop and desktop deals:
