The OCZ 600W PSU is also worth a look as it will be better suited for a Crossfire setup than the VX450W. OTH,the VX450W will be fine for a single card setup.

Hopefully you can unlock the X2 550 too!!

    Anyway,enjoy building your computer!!
Interesting, I assumed the 550BE wouldn't run on an AM3 board. I'll check it out.

[edit] Well how about that, AM3 board and DDR3 only adds £4 to the price of the build. Nice!

If you want to keep costs down I have an unused ASUS 785G motherboard if you want it:

If you've no plans on going crossfire then consider the still exellent Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P

Re: Please comment on this relatively budget AM3 build

Thought I'd provide an update now that the system is built and online!!

This is what I went with:

    Gigabyte MA790XT-UD4P
Phenom II X2 Black Edition retail box
    4GB Corsair XMS3
    500GB Samsung F3
    LG GH22N250 SATA DVD
    Corsair 450W PSU
    1GB XFX HD5750
    Coolermaster CM690 Black Case
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

The system is so quiet compared to my old one, boots extremely quickly, and is not hot at all

    Now to reinstall everything

Now you also can check if you can unlock the Phenom II X2 to a quad core.

Nothing like the joy at finding out you can. If you use a gigabyte board make sure to enable hybrid ACC in the BIOS in order to try unlocking.

Found out my X3 unlocks last night using the hybrid but if i dont it wont unlock.
