    Northwood or Prescott?

I am going to get a Shuttle Zen. I have heard the Prescott CPU's run hotter. But does it make much difference? Doesn't the Zen Shuttle use a silent cooling solution?

    Regards,

    Jon

Just seen another thread that says I should go for a Northwood as it is cooler. Should I get the one with HT?

    a p43.2ee beats a p43.2 prescott :/

the deeper pipeline is too much of a performance drop even with the extra l2 and better bpu

You can put a prescott in a shuttle no worries. I know the SB75S has been tested by SFF tech and they are completely satisfied with its cooling of prescott CPUs.

But, getting a pentium 4 extreme edition would provide better performance. Prescott chips won't be better performers for quite some time now.

I've just bought a 3GHz Northwood for my shuttle. I wouldn't touch a Prescott without cascade vapour phase cooling!

If I remember correctly the Northwood kicks out 89W of heat and the Prescotts do 100W :-/

    This speaks volumes...

Quick note... The ones that end E are the Prescotts. The ones without the E are the Northwoods. The EEs are the Exterme Editions.

The only way I could recommend a Prescott is if you live in a house with no central heating, its -20 and the end of your nose is blue.

    Actually, Northwoods end with "C"

b1g1an, you mis-read the thread. The Note you quotes is for the pic I included from Tom's Hardware and not the Intel naming scheme, actually
