Bit of help..

Hello all,

I have decided to treat myself this month, early pay day..cant complain!

Anyway, I am getting a new case, one of two which I will decide when I come to buy, however I want an SSD but cant decided on which one I want!

It doesnt have to be an extremely large capacity one, just enough for Windows XP and CoD4 (Main game I play) and that will be about it, the rest of my App's and stuff will be installed on a partitioned 500Gb HD. I have a second 300Gb drive in the PC for backups then three more HD's external for large back ups. Not as organised as I would like it to be as the three drives are a mix between SATA and IDE connections so I cant through them all in one caddy or something similar..I suppose I could connect them all inside the PC, but I would prefer if I didnt have to do that.

In regards to the above mixture of drives, other than buying a new drive, can anyone think of a way I can utilize the drives externally without a massive cost? I mean in one encosure or something?

Anyway, can someone recommend an SSD for my needs?

I think I will wait until next year for the SSD and just buy a case this month.

HAF 923 or Antec 1200 (If I have space for this beast)

Anyway, I have decided to replace the three seperate external HD's with one 1 - 1.5Tb HD. Wondering if anyone could recommend any?

Get a 1.5TB, it's good value for money.

I'd get another HD154UI personally - I've already got a Sharkoon QuickSATA port which does the job fine, then I just put the drive back in the plastic case and into the drawer. Safe and simple

Ok I am going to find out what a HD154UI as I have no clue at the moment lol

Hmm I kinda want to get the entire unit as one, but if it works out cheaper I will just get a new HD and caddy as the one's I have at the moment are rather...rubbish so a new one would be nice

Just a really basic one like this.

Really basic, really cheap, does the job well. I always prefer using internal drives because they're much easier to store, and you can use multiple drives with just the one caddy - less points of failure. Also, you can pick up some really great bargains on internal drives that aren't so easy on external units, and it's really easy to swap your drives around from internals to externals and so on.

The other thing is that if it breaks, you just send the caddy back to the retailer and get a replacement - no concerns about having to send the drive back or whatever.

Whatever you do, don't bother with multiple drive caddys - I was looking into that a while ago for my server, wanted a 4-drive caddy for backups and they got so ridiculously expensive that I gave up. Higher capacity drives were the answer in my case.

Just need to think about it now, because a drive and that is nearly £100.

Will have to look at how much I could get for the drives I have now..or I could just stick the Sata one's in my PC providing I have the connections for them (cant remember how many sata I have) and sod the external drive..a lot of thinking to do..but my head is too mashed to think after my day!
