BIOS settings making Speedfan not work

Had to restore standard BIOS settings after a particularly fun crash (and subsequent repair of my C partition's boot record...joy) and now Speedfan won't adjust fan speeds. It thinks it is doing, in that the percentage values decrease, but the actual RPM readings remain unchanged.

    Thoughts?
For joy, apparently, it was all Franny could do to hold the phone, even with both hands.

Some sort of automatic system enabled to control fan speed, like Cool n Quiet or Q-Fan Smart?

Bizarrely, Q-Fan was disabled but when I enabled it Smartfan worked. Go figure...
