    Which Mono Laser Printer

Okay did a search but didn't help. I'm after a mono laser printer for a small home office, duplex , network etc not essential. Its to replace a Samsung ML-1750 which was fine but the roller that picks up the paper is worn and only picks up paper intermitently.

Requirements are that it should be quiet when not in use.
Don't mind waiting 15 secs for first page out and having anywhere upwards of 15ppm
Should have low cost per page
    Good build quality
Good output quality optimised for text

I know chaps like CAT V and Saracens are experienced printer people. Checked out the reviews and everything gets mixed reviews - looking for that standout of the crowd decent product.
Brother HL-2035 generally gets gfood reveiws but someone has said that the fan runs for over ten minutes after printing has stopped and sounds like a steam locomotive.

Any help or advice gratefully received

    Re: Which Mono Laser Printer

What you get depends on the budget you have. The cheaper laser printers tend to cost more per page, are less durable and are slower than their more expensive compatriots.

The Brother does look quite good for the price. However my experience with laser printers(apart from a cheaper Samsung one) tends to be with more expensive HP and Xerox models and a few Minoltas.

I would look at the cost of the consumables and their expected lifespan with the Brother laser printer though as this is a large part of the costs of using a laser printer. Cheap to buy does not mean cheap to run and sometimes going with a more expensive printer with better value consumables ends up being cheaper in the long run.

    Re: Which Mono Laser Printer

Thanks CAT 5th. Am looking at the mid to low end of the range - primarily becuase it won't get a great deal of use, on some days zero pages on others a few maybe ten, so on average five pages per day.

The cartridge costs on the brothers tend to be reasonable as they don't include the drum as well (only toner circa £24 for 2000 pages). of course the cost of the drum for the HL2035 is more than a new HL2035.....

Only problem for me with this model is I've heard it screams like a bat out of hell.

    Re: Which Mono Laser Printer

I'd definitely prefer Brother for home use monochrome laser printers. Their printers are not only of high quality for the price they give it, but they are also very good in the long term concerning toner costs. But they do make a lot of noise, I accept that. If noise is such a big problem for you, brother might not be the best choice.

    Epson EPL-6200

while it is in warranty you get a nice chap like me come and swap it out next day for a refurb if it does go tits up, to be honest with you i do not see many of these, mainly in the DVLA centers because of paper pickup issues with there horrible tamperproof slick as teflon MOT paper.

    Re: Which Mono Laser Printer

It's also worth noting that many laser printers come with a "starter" toner that's only 1/2 or less capacity. With the cheapest lasers it's sometimes cheaper to buy a new printer (with starter cartridge) than a "full" replacement cartridge so definitely look at the price of consumables!

    Re: Which Mono Laser Printer

Dux thanks for resurrecting this thread - as it turns out at the time I went for a Samsung networked with duplex mono laser. Needed another laser printer for the Mrs and the list of reviews posted by MSIC really helped.

Went for this one - great deal from Misco as went for £105 delivered

I have no connection with the store (or the manufacturer)

    Re: Which Mono Laser Printer

the cannon isensys ones are quite nice, we have the mono printer scanner version at work.
Nice drivers if I remember correctly, one thing I don't like about HP is the drivers tend to be very baggy and on some of them hard to get just a plane driver without the additional software thrown ontop.
