    Please recommend CD ROM

I am about to buy a Shuttle but need to get:

    a) A CD-ROM

    b) A floppy drive

    What do you recommend?

    I am in the UK.

Oh, and I am getting a 120 GB Samsung SP1213N 7200rpm 8Mb Cache IDE ATA133 (3yr Warranty). Is that ok?

    Regards,

    Jon

Samsungs HDs are really cool running so are pretty much perfect for Shuttles and the like. I have a 160gb in mine they are very good.
    a) I bought a Plextor DVDRW recently and its very good, I don't know about their CDroms. All the samsung cd/dvdroms I've used have been less than stellar so I'd avoid them. MSI do combo drives (CDRW/DVD) and CDRWs very cheap these days I think they are ok. A retail box 52x MSI CDRW will cost £25 and include a version of nero for burning your CDs.
    b) get a nice panasonic, I've tried cheaper and the pins allways bend and they have sharp edges. Pay the extra 50-70p and get a Panasonic.

Don't get a TEAC CD ROM. They look good in black but boy are they noisy. I've always prefered NEC CD / DVD kit.

I would go for either a Seagate (if you want quiet / cool HD) or a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 if you want more performance but still good noise output.

Go with a Seagate for the hard drive, not the quickest but certainly the coolest and quietest.

For the drive Nec/Liteon are pretty decent drives
