Haven't come across one thats quiet yet, althoguh thats a relative term.

The Sony AD-7240S is a good fast drive ( I have one) - doesn't scream like some Samsung and Lite-Ons I've had in the past, but not whisper quiet either. I owuld say its one of the quieter ones I've used though.

Have a look at a review here www.cdrlabs.com

The folks on that forum may be able to help as well

my pc seems to eat dvd drives (samsung and lite on drives)
,and have to agree with the above post on sony/opteracs drives so far its been 100% reliable and after it has had some use its reasonable quiet (out the box it was a lot louder)

    LG drives seem the quietest.

Got the BD/HD-DVD/DVD combo drive in my HTPC and it's virtually silent, also have the same drive but with BDRW in my main PC and it is also whisper quiet.

Every other optical drive I have owned drowns these out.

My Sony BDU X10S drive is the quietest thing in my pc, but I suppose its as it only reads the blu rays at x2.
