    Re: q6600 bottleneck

It should reach 400Mhz no problem if this is the board you're talking about:

Socket 775 boards were generally great overclockers.

Btw the poorer performance of your Athlon is mainly because of its lack of L3 cache If it had the Q6600's amount of cache then I suspect it would perform a good bit better. L3 cache doesn't really affect everyday applications but it does improve performance in games.

edit: so clock speed still matters but only up to a certain point

leaving it at stock would probably be sufficient. or maybe overclocking it to 3GHz.
A lot of games are only dual-threaded, which means it's sheer MHz that gets you through the bottleneck (also why a fast dual-core will topple a slow quad-core in game benchmarks). The Blackops is rated to 2000MHz FSB, so when mine gets through, I'm shooting straight for 400x9 on my Q6600.

What do you mean, "im not buying ddr3 for something tht cant utilize it"? LGA775 was both DDR2 and DDR3 compatible. The real good news is that DDR3-1600 will be perfect for a 1600MHz FSB.

In regards to your instability beyond 3.3GHz, better cooling may help you hit higher frequencies. As may a better motherboard (one with greater power stability, and more fine-tuning options).

If your motherboard's dying, perhaps it's time to sell up? There's always people after Q6600s, and you can funnel the money into Lynnfield, or Phenom II. You'll certainly not be in any danger of bottlenecks beyond that!

my bad i didnt know the blackops supported ddr2 aswell unfortunatly ebuyer are sold out on them.....i can get a phenom II 550 for £60...would tht preform any better than the q6600?

for ocing the q6600 id need a very good cooler....would a megahalem or h50 do the job? and if i get good temps would 1.625volts be ok for the q6600?

To Zhaoman: thts the ddr3 mobo.....i ment this one https://www.pricelover.com/product/P5E_DELUXE/
