    Freesat HD Tuner Card

I'm hopefully going to be moving in to a new place in a few months with a pre-installed satellite dish.

Can anyone recommend any tuner cards for my HTPC that would enable me to receive Freesat HD? I can see that Scan stock quite a few but only one (the most expensive and unavailable one) specifically mentions HD.

    Re: Freesat HD Tuner Card

Can't really recommend a specific card as haven't got one myself, but this should do the trick...

I've used Hauppauge's in the past and they've always worked well.

If that's the case I think the S350's a no-brainer. Now all I need is to do is get myself into the new flat.

    Re: Freesat HD Tuner Card

What are peoples experiences of the Compro S350 for reliability? Particularily in Windows 7 x64? Does it work with the Media center or do you have to use some crappy TV software for it to work?
I understand that there are issues with Vista Media center and Freesat.
Is the remote WMC certified? Does the power on/off through the remote actually work?
I'm only suspicious as my experience of most PC TV prodicts is tehy promise loads... and then are unreliable junk or short on delivery at best, no matter how much you pay for them.

    Re: Freesat HD Tuner Card

The Compro S350 works with Windows 7 x64 media centre, the remote only works with the Compro software so you might want to get a media centre remote. BBC HD is found automatically but ITV HD has to be added manually or you can you an app called gimmeitvhd.

    Re: Freesat HD Tuner Card

avforums are a good place to search re: dvb-s cards, as is thegreenbutton and xpmediacenter.com.au , I've learnt a fair bit from them.
From what I've read, the s350 is fine, though not the fastest at changing channels.
In fact, I'm about to get one myself (couple of weeks getting that and a dish) as I really want bbchd and itvhd)
dvb-s2 is currently not that important as bbc, itv, 4 use dvb-s, and for less than 30squid the s350 can't be sniffed at.

    Re: Freesat HD Tuner Card

So does this compro s350 output the full HD stream, or is it downsampled?

It's currently on Today Only offer at Scan for £21.74 btw.

DVB-x cards have nothing to do with playback or decoding, they simply hand the data streams over the the viewing software to deal with. So if the BBC are broadcasting 1080p, that video stream is sent to MCE/MediaPortal/etc. to deal with. Then it's up to that software to decode and display.
