    Partition Recovery

Long story short i was trying to dual boot windows 7 and windows xp. I was trying to split my single partition down the middle. I had just got a copy of EASEUS partition master (link below) and had just finished installing it when my screen turned into a patchwork quilt of colours.

    http://www.partition-tool.com/

Upon restarting it it didn't recognise any OS and all the recovery options that come with Windows 7 failed to work. I put in my OS disc to perform a reinstall however it only recognises a 10gb partition (Dell backup stuff) and a 180mb partition, not ''seeing'' the other 300+gbs of my HDD.

Can anyone advise on where i go from here, either fixing the partitions, or re-allocating the 300+gb partition to workable space?

    cheers guys

    Re: Partition Recovery

iv managed to run EASEUS partition docter, to try and rebuild the master boot however when i try and run it from the CD during the boot, the colours are all mismatched. Bit gutting as it seems so close, yet so far away!

    Can anyone advise?

    cheers guys

    Re: Partition Recovery

Why don't you boot off a CD, like UBCD4Win and have a look at the partitions from in there?

I never made a back up of the master boot so i don't know what id replace/fix it with. Iv downloaded UBCD4Win, but without a copy of the original i don't think it can help much.

    Cheers anyway mate

    Re: Partition Recovery

I ended up taking the HDD out of the laptop & plugging it into my main PC and just formatting it on there. Back into the laptop and now re-installing OS!

Andehh...You just format your drive even you do not have any backup.Formatting a drive again and again could damage your HDD and finally you may come across data loss situations. <deleted - pimping commercial software>

Formatting (incorrectly named) will not damage a drive at all. All 'formatting' does is write the file system structure to the partition, be it NTFS, FAT32, ext3 or whatever.
