Bottleneck? If so Price Check Please, Thanks!

    Hi again,

Basically I've got an Intel Q8200 but I'm not sure if I should keep a hold of it or sell it on, especially if it's going to be a bottleneck in my or siblings system.

I've a HD4870 currently with a E8400 in a HTPC (Yes, I know the Q8200 is slower), if I was to replace it with that would the Q8200 hinder the HD4870's performance?

Second scenario, let's say I decide to keep the above machine as it is and put this into my siblings machine which consists of an E6750 and HD3870 currently, is there a bottleneck if I replace his E6750 with the Q8200 (all CPU's left at stock and at stock the E6750 is faster) in this system? Or say when I replace his HD3870 with the HD4870 will the system bottleneck be the Q8200?

Thanks, that was winded, my apologies, hope you can help me to get this clarified.

    All the best.

In what game and at what settings?

Again, in what game and at what settings? There is always a bottleneck, just a question of what it is, which will depend on what's being run.

Used in the HTPC at 1080p (1920x1080) or if used in the HD3870 machine at 1680x1050, games - several of the newest ones plus older titles. I don't really play Crysis if that's what you're asking.

    Thanks.

Re: Bottleneck? If so Price Check Please, Thanks!

Newer titles at 1080p will be entirely bottlenecked by the graphics card, so there will be very little hindrance with a Q8200. (And multi-core aware games might be faster).

In the second scenario the 4870 might just be beginning to be held up by the CPU at 1650 depending on how intense the game is/what settings for IQ you use, however a 3870 is going to be much more of a bottleneck, so there would still be a quite significant increase in performance going to the 4870.
