Kids New Sugo Build...Any Advice Welcome...

Right then peeps, i'm getting towards having the last of the bits delivered for the kids upgraded pooter and was just wondering if anyone had any hints, tips or sound advice?.

Plus enough Xilence 80mm fans to fill it!. Was gonna carry over their 320gig hdd but thinking on it, i reckon i'll replace it with something bigger, the sata dvdrw can stay but my main worry is their gfx card.

They have a 512meg 8800GT at the mo, but due to the PC (Aopen XC Cube) i had to get a single width card. I was wondering if i might be better off selling that on (as they still apppear to be worth about the same as what i paid s/h) and getting a card thats two slot and will exhaust out the back of the case?.

Also, what would be considered a decent upgrade from an 8800GT these days, but still cheap...ish...

GTS 250 would be my choice if you are sticking with NVIDIA, a GTX 280 will fit in the SG01 Evo as you can move the HDD cage but that might be a bit excessive.

Around £80 including delivery from Scan for a GTS250 if you go that route.

Thanks mate, also been looking at 5770's, they seem to be an often mentioned 'budget' card.

A GTS250 is a 9800
and a 9800 was an 8800

So basically, you already have a GTS250, just under one of nvidia's numerous names for it

No the gts250 is a rebranding of the 9800gtx+ with a smaller architecture gpu, so lower power requirements and heat.
It's a full 128 streams and higher clocks, 738 MHz core, than the 112 stream 8800gt, 600 MHz core

The 8800gt became the 9800gt then OEM only gts240

The gts250 is still a nice card, and the stock cooler is a double height, rear exhaust cooler. only requireing 1 pci-e power connector and 9 inches long.

However the ati 5770 beats it in performance, around the gtx260 (or slightly better depending on game/settings/screen res)

For a cheap option you could keep the 8800gt and get an Akasa Vortexx Neo for if to improve the cooling
