I have similar in a wood pc case i built.
I took some wires from an old case and soldered to the button
I surpose there may be able to crimp a female connector like these ( google search )

I definitely would not solder anything to the motherboard.

If you look in Maplin, you'll be able to find the single pin connectors used on the ends of standard power buttons in cases. Solder the wire to that, slip into the black plastic housing and then connect to your motherboard.

As a temporary solution, short the 2 pins on the motherboard for the power switch with a screwdriver. Done that plenty of times when I haven't had the front panel stuff plugged in yet.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

As Funkstar says, absolutely, all the power switch is, is a momentary switch, so all it does is bridge the connection between the pin for the time that you hold it, as Mblaster said, you get the same effect by tapping the 2 pins with a screwdriver or other metal object

I do like the black switches
