Also remember that with the changes it means Intel now controls the licenses on how the cpu & motherboard communicate.
This has been the whole reason that nvidia has shelved it's motherboard chipset development, intel are refuseing to license it for a sane cost, this in turn means intel now has an effective total monopoly over the chipset and can charge motherboard manufactures what ever they want for the chipset.
It also reduces intel's costs as they don't have to put so much into development of new chipsets because someone else has come up with a better one.
