Black Screen On Booting up ---- Help

When trying to boot up my Acer Aspire One Netbook i am faced with a black screen. I can't boot into bios or see anything on the screen.

Any ideas or help in rectifying this problem will be greatly appriciated. It is running on Win XP.

Does the hard drive light flash as if it's continuing to boot or is there no activity at all?
I'd try plugging in an external display and seeing if you get any output on that if it's convenient to do.

There was Hd activity before, i have just checked no hd activity. I have used an external display with no success.

Ok, I'd try popping out the battery and booting off just the mains adapter to see if that makes a difference.
The next step would be to try re-seating the memory to rule out a simple issue there.

Popped battery out, stripped it reset memory no joy.

Hmm, didn't realise that re-seating the memory would mean stripping it completely. Afraid your options are a bit limited, looks like you have to disconnect/reconnect the hard drive to get to the RAM so you've already done that. Did you remember to switch to the external display (fn-f5 or the equivalent) when you tested with it?

when stripping things out did you check if any cables are loose? maybe the connector to the lcd?
