Question Just bought some speakers and a little confused

Ok just bought some Logitech Z-10 Speakers, to partner with my new sound card I bought.

From doing some reasing around the web thou I now see they attach to my PC via USB and bypassing my sound card all togther. Does that mean my sound card is wasted ?

Re: Just bought some speakers and a little confused

I'm no expert with sound but AFAIK, USB connections are usually for information or power only. In the review it mentions it bypasses the sound card but beneath it it also mentions that it's used to "download" the display information such as song title, length, artist etc so I'm guessing that's what it's for.

Actually, reading further, it is possible they mention:

"Displaying artist and track information on the LCD screen while using the analog input is a little tricky, and isn't covered in the manual. You need to make both the USB connection and the analog connection, and then manually set the computer's sound card as the primary audio device in the control panel. The only downside to this setup is that the touch-sensitive controls for volume won't work. Although we got it working, we wish the process was a little simpler or covered in the manual. "

I guess that's your question answered

Re: Just bought some speakers and a little confused

if you use the sound from just the usb connection then it goes thru the built in sound engine of the speakers i have the z-cinema and it bypasses the sound card unless of course mentioned earlier you use the analog connection

The USB speakers will not use any of the capabilities of your sound card - they are an alternative sound device. You will need some analogue speakers if you wish to use the output of your sound card.
