    4890 or 4890

Paid £70 for 960Mhz 4890, been 4 days nothings arrived the seller not in contact.

Anyways, theres a new 850Mhz 4890 that takes single 6pin power by Peak.

PEAK 1GB RADEON HD 4890 PCI-E 2.0 HDMI RETAIL | Ginger6 Wolverhampton West Midlands UK

Which looks like it could do some crazy OC'ing. Costs only £134.

Scan have the XFX OC 4890 870Mhz. Costing £142.

    Scan.co.uk: HD-489X-ZSQC - 1GB XFX HD 4890 OC, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 3900MHz GDDR5, GPU 870MHz, 800 Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/ HDTV, HDCP

Question is which to go for, im inclined to go with the Peak version its cheaper and has a better cooler. What say you?

That peak card looks really good, although I've not heard of Peak before.
The xfx card looks really funky and it is faster clocked.
Also don't know what ginger6 are like.

    Overall it's a tough call.

Ginger 6 sounds pretty good, been around for a while but same here only heard of them few days back.

The XFX one is only clocked 20Mhz higher and thats apparantly no difference at all.

I just wana what people thnk about the Peak card and if anyone has one.

    Re: 4890 or 4890

That's a lot of money tbh, I paid £150 for a pair of 4870s about a month ago and it was still tough to justify knowing that a 5850 should cost £200. The fact that I could be waiting forever to get a 5850 was what tipped the balance, but even so £140 on a hot, loud, last-gen card is a lot of dosh.

    Re: 4890 or 4890

Well from what I've seen most 4890s run cooler than a 4870. This might just be to do with better coolers though but who knows. They say that it's due to the more agressive fan profiles - which means th at the 4890 fans could possibly be louder than the 4870s.

Tbh, a 5770 might be a good bet if you're going for OCing. Sure it'll be weaker than a 4890 OCed but it shouldn't be that far behind.

Well if im right about the new Peak 4890, then it gets less hot due to the two coolers, apparently they're not too loud, plus it doesnt take as much power, single 6 pin connection.

Also 5850's are around the £200 mark, i dont wanna spend that and im not sure i have enough power for it.

So the best option is 4890.

Maybe it is, but the point I'm making is that I wasn't convinced a 4870 for £75 was a brilliant deal, so there's no way I think a 4890 for £140 is a good deal.

    Re: 4890 or 4890

This thread might be a bit old, but I bought a 3870 from Ginger6 a while back. Don't remember there being any problems and the price was excellent.
