    Canon iP4200 compatible ink?

I've had a Canon iP4200 printer for quite a while now, but hardly used it as my ancient Epson 760 has been working sufficiently to print out webpages etc - wit compatible ink costing as low as 70p!

I've had to move to the Canon for all but the least important stuff, as a result the ink has run out in some chambers and needs replacing - genuine Canon ink is expensive (funnily enough).

All inks look to be around 13 quid or so give or take - since there's 5 separate chambers thats around 65 quid!

So, can anyone reccomend any compabible ink that's decent, and what's the deal with the chip/non chip stuff?

Taking a quick look @ SVP it seems there's quite a choice - refill the originals (never done this - is it rubbish?), or get the compatibles of which there's a few to choose from too :/

    Re: Canon iP4200 compatible ink?

I have the iP4200 as well and always get the genuine inks to be on the safe side. I have heard of many brands where they arrive with the instruction to remove the Canon chips from the genuine tanks, and glue them to the new ones. <shudder>
The chips are to prevent you using any other brand of ink in their printer. They are effectively an IP protection device like a dongle used to be. Do NOT buy tanks without chips. If they come with chips, they will hopefully work, but may affect the printhead over time.
£65 is too much though, Amazon usually have them for £50.

TBH, that's also scarily steep, and I'd be interested if you find any substitutes wirth having.

    Re: Canon iP4200 compatible ink?

Yeah, tbh the idea of filling tanks or gluing chips on does sound like a nightmare - the sort of thing I'd be willing to do on this ancient Epson if it required it (it's 10 years old) but not on this nice canon which has not gone through one set yet! (well it has on some inks).

Even 50 quid seems ludicrously steep tbh.

Does anyone know anything about servicing or replacing print heads on the Epson? - If I could get a print head pretty cheap and put that in I reckon that would stick up for a little while longer - it seems now when the compatible inks go in you need to do the nozzle/head cleaning stuff about 4 times till it works!

    Re: Canon iP4200 compatible ink?

I have the IP4500 printer and it uses the same cartridges.

The inks I normally get are the ones here:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=cli8

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Canon...Compatible-Ink

These work fine, come with the included chip and I have had no issues with them

    Hope this helps

    Re: Canon iP4200 compatible ink?

Very glad I asked now - thanks for the reply Carlh - very useful - and Phage asked the two questions I was going to ask - and the answers are what I wanted to hear.

Nice to get them from Scan too
