Why is crucial memory better than ebuyer memory because ebuyer 1gig is the same price as crucial 0.5gig.

What RAM are you looking at because it looks like £56 v £70 ex. VAT for 512Mb PC3200 to me.
Crucial has a lifetime warranty.
Crucial 512 MB is £77.54 from ebuyer
Ebuyer 1024 MB is £75.69 from ebuyer - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...NoUmVzdWx0cw==
is it one stick ? if so u need to chek mobo supports it
it might pay to get the ebuyer - more mem, more resale value etc
but the crucial will perform slightly better, and overclock better, also the guarantee
but performing better, i think a 512 gain wil out weigh the crucial performance gain

OK, so assume I have two different brands of memory - both the same size, and everything, they ONLY differ in price. The ebuyer is cheaper than the crucial. Is there anything at all that would make the crucial better. I've been told that it would be faster/quieter/cooler. Is this true?
Also, is DDR266 worse than DDR333?

DDR 333 is faster, but if you run a 133 FSB system (XP2400 and lower) iw wont make a difference
if ebuyer and crucial were the same price - get the crucial
faster/quieter/cooler ?
faster no - exactly the same speed, but if you overclock them - then yes they will problably clock higher, thus go faster, but at stock there will be negligable difference
quieter no - ram doesnt make noise !
cooler maybe - if there better chips then yes, they may run cooler if the size of the chips are smaller (i.e. less microns wide) but they will probably be the same, no wont benefit you much

eww @ generic memory. Far less risk of the crucial not working when you plug it in. e:f,b, see above.
aye crucial is much more reliable than ebuyer, thats its main benefit - reliability. and the free nxt day delivery ofc =)
performance ram it aint tho, you'll be wantin some corsair or OCZ ram for that - tho you pay for it tho;/ like everything else in this world, you get what you pay for(mostly)
http://www.shop4memory.com/ is a very good place for ram, cheap and fast
Aye, listen to Hexxy, he's 100% right here.Originally Posted by directhex
Crucial RAM is quality, 99.9% reliable, stable as you like, top notch stuff. Crucial themselves also have (by far) the best returns and general customer service response I've seen. You also get a lifetime limited warranty, and the peace of mind that it wont break, and even if it does, you wont have to raise hell to get it replaced, quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
No, with eBuyer, and their generic RAM, read all of the above again, changing each positive to the equivalent negative.
Now make your decision based on this.
(Hint: Buy the Crucial RAM)
Also, should just point out that Crucial RAM, for a stick of 512 DDR400 was about £54 until a few week ago, when RAM prices spiked, and it shot up to £75-£80.
I would assume it will come back down at some point. Better do, I aint paying £82 for 512mb of PC3200...
OK, I'll get crucial then, just to be sure. But you say that memory prices aren't stable? When is it likely that they'll become cheaper again?
Also, do we actually NEED 1000 MB RAM - 512 is enough isn't it? - I could always buy more I suppose.
Who knows they go up & down, up & down....Originally Posted by ajbrun
It depends what you are doing - some flight sims (LOMAc, Il2 ) definitely benefit from a gig as will things involving graphics (Photoshop), animation etc.
I probably won't need 1 gig as yet at least, so I'll buy 512 MB, and get another as and when the time comes.
I could do with more ram, my system still bogs down too much when fiddling with cinema4d, but the prices at the moment are silly
Some sites have a weekly ram +/- price change list, just keep watching that
