Yep that's right, about to start right now. My first ever build, so wish me luck! Any tips?
I'll take some pictures once i get a good way through.

Take your time. Plan ahead. Check and double check everything. Good luck!
Edit: misunderstood thought you were at the buying stage, as domestic ginger said - dont force anything! good luck

Read the instructions until you are happy and take your time. Don't force anything!
Check the rocker switch on the PSU before you RageQuit and punch the wall because the PC you spent 2 hours building and 5 hours cable-managing wont power up at all.
I need some advice, i'm about to install the cooler, however, i'm not sure if i need thermal paste for between the processer and the bottom of the cooler?
Most coolers either come with a thermal pad or a tube of thermal paste.
If it's a pad, it'll be on the underside of the cooler already and all you need to do is remove the covering.
If it's paste, stick a bit of cling film over your finger, a blob (raisin sized) of paste in the centre of the CPU (the matt black side, not the shiny copper pin side) and spread the paste over the CPU. Add one final rice sized dot in the centre and voila.
Either way you need paste/pad between the cooler and the CPU
It's a second hand cooler, i'll need to go out and get some paste then.
Edit: He mentioned i would need some thermal paste but i wanted to wait until i got the stuff in the post before i did anything.
The most important things to do during a build are:
1.)Make sure you take things slowly.
2.)Make sure you read the installation manuals for components like the motherboard and case properly. Also read any guides on assembling computers beforehand. It is useful to have a notebook to hand so you can refer any guides during assebly.
3.)Take appopriate precautions to minimise the risk of static discharges.
4.)Make sure you have the appropriate tools to the hand.
5.)Have a clear space to work on. I would make sure the surface is not carpet.
6.)Make sure you take things slowly.
7.)Make sure you take things slowly.
8.)Make sure you take things slowly.
Slow is the key word today and that's exactly how i'm taking it.
Ok my progress so far, have the power supply in and the motherboard with RAM and CPU installed but haven't bought the thermal paste yet so the cooler isn't installed. Now i'm onto the hard drive.
Which cooler did you buy?
Some need to be bolted through the back of the mobo, so you may want to stop now rather than have to take it all apart again in a few days.
Yeah, i can see how it needs to be attached to the mobo it's no worries
I have the SATA HD and two cables, i'm pretty i need a third. I have an interface cable, the flat cable, but i think i'm missing the power cable. Is it possible it could be attached to the power supple already that this guy has supplied me?
Not being annoying but you used mounting brackets for the motherboard; they raise the board up form the metal interior of the case. -
HDD should need two cables; the PSU should have the power cable attached
and the SATA cable to the motherboard.

I raised the mobo up on standoffs, same thing pretty much?
Ok cheers, i'll have a look at the PSU cables.
