    Need a new PSU.

Right, as most of you will know from my recent thread my PSU blew up and took a couple of components with it, so i installed a Hiper 550W, and tbh, i don't trust it.

So.. I'm looking for a Corsair PSU still, cos i think i'm just one of the unlucky ones and still definitely trust Corsair for a decent PSU.

    is the VX550W good enough?
Can get it for £59.99 with free delivery from Gibbo.

(i'm getting an RMA on the HX620W so i'll just sell that on and keep this one instead)

    My PC spec is:

    Q6600 @ 3.2ish
    Abit IP35 Dark Raider
    4GB OCZ RAM
2x HDDs and 2x SSDs when i get them back
    GTX275 when it comes tomorrow

It has all the right connectors for what i need.

    Re: Need a new PSU.

If you mean will it be enough for your PC then yup, that PSU will definitely be enough "juice". 492W on the 12V single rail = Win.

A GTX275 with i7 965 with full GPU load (not full CPU though) draws 250W according to Tom's Hardware so it's safe to assume to assume that PSU is enough.

Techreport reports 350W load though with a similar setup but either way, that PSU is going to be enough.

That enermax actually looks very nice, as does the Seasonic.
Oh look what you've done . thrown the cat amongst the pigeons.
£52.73 for a Seasonic is just crazily good . and then the free ND delivery

I'm in the process of RMA'ing my HX620W, but they're having to source stock of the HX620W or give me a refund, so that could take some time :\.

Reviews of the original seasonic S12 II (that you linked)
    http://www.***********.net/reviews/p...430w_atx_psu/1
not a great indepth look at the internals

    Silverstone strider SFT50F review
    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/548/1
More indepth look inside, made by FSP, I'm pritty sure that's an FSP Epislon.

Saying that your Hipper type R is probably ok, some where dodgy some where not, it was the quality control issues they had really hit them bad, leaveing with such a bad rep they never recovered from.

    Re: Need a new PSU.

This modular 480W PSU looks good:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/480W-...ht-power-CM-E7

It has quite high efficiency too!

I could only find this review in German:

    http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/transl...rUrl=Translate

It looks like it is an FSP unit,is quite quiet and has high efficiency.

TBH I would go with the HX450W as it is a Seasonic made unit anyway:

    http://www.google.com/translate?lang...threadid=28332

It seems to use good quality capacitors rated to 105C.

The specs look different on the Seasonic website:

    http://www.seasonic.com/pdf/datashee...I%20Bronze.pdf

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/430w-...FC-RoHS-plus80

It seems to support two 20A 12V rails and not a pair of 17A ones!

However the warranty is only for 12 months although Seasonic state three years!

no. you've read the spread wrong. that's the 5v and the 3.3v. the 12v has a combined 30A, which makes 360w. still more than enough for my system
and probably more than this Hiper can manage, i seriously don't trust the thing.

Oops! I would check the warranty though as only 12 months is not that good.

I've always liked this site for reviews of power supplies. these guys really know how to get their geek on!

Their forums are pretty good for getting PSU recommendations too (not suggesting that Hexites don't know what they're on about)
