For a Socket A (Athlon XP) motherboard, the Abit NF7-S. Great overclocking potential. For the chip, I would actually change it to the Mobile Barton 2500+. It may be slower at stock, but from what I've heard, it has higher overlocking potential, especially since it's stock voltage is 1.45v. All from http://www.cpucity.co.uk.

it's funny you should say that mike, it's what i have been looking at!
as for the cpu it's something i will look more into...
will keep on looking about but that does seem like the 1 to go for..

Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev2, or an Abit NF7-S v2.0
CPU: Barton (or even a T-Bred to be honest) 2500+ \ 2600+, or ideally, as Mike says, a Mobile 2500+. All will do 2.2ghz easy (3200+ like you wanted), with the mobile Barton probably doing a good bit more.
-
I have my 2500+ doing 2.4 and am only realy limited by my RAM at the moment
-
I have my Mobile doing 2.7GHz:D
For speed & stability NF7 V2.0 (or NF7-S V2.0 with SATA, 1394, Soundstorm audio & a free PATA-SATA adapter for £63 at CPU City - bargain).
DFI Infinity maybe slightly quicker but probably more hassle.

Dependant on what you want and your budge, The Asrock K7S8X-E is a stable board with no frills which supports Athlon XP 3200 and DDR400. You can get on ebay for about £15.
A good budget option and so far no problems with mine!
-
When i say this i mean it, there's no board worth considering over the NF7-S, if as someone has already brought up money isn't a problem, it's the daddy hell it's the daddies daddy.
-
I'll second the NF7-S (or is it third?). Its a rock-stable board at stock, and has loads of o/c potential as well.
-
I'd go for the nf7-s v2.0 , i went from 2500+ to 3200+ speed easily.
-
NF7-S vote here to.
The only AMD board ive had happy at 500mhz FSB :)
-
500fsb!! WOAH! im gonna vote for an NF7-S and be the seventh person to do so :)
-
well then, it looks like the NF7-S v2!
as for chip i will see.
thanks alot people.
