Very poor speeds with Netgear GS605

    Hello,

I have had quite a few of these (3 now and counting) Netgear unmanaged switches switch to what seems to be less than 1MBit (instead of 1GBit!), its definitely the devices themselves as swapping them out fixes the problem instantly. These are operating on a LAN, all are in well ventalated areas so its unlikely to be heat. These are now around 2 1/2 years old, could it just be a bad batch/wear and tear?

Just wondering if anyone had come across this before..

    Thanks,

Its the devices, way they are made.

Have a look at this article ( although don't know where they got their prices from)

    http://www.meetthegeeks.org/Networki...?id=83&pid=315

Scroll to the section on the Netgear GS608 (same as yours except 8 ports instead of 5)

    st SMC DGS1008D (256kb) in 5 minutes 46 seconds, costing £35

    2nd 3Com GSU08-UK (256kb) in 5 minutes 59 seconds costing £36

    3rd Linksys SD2005-UK (256) in 6 minutes and 0 seconds costing £121

    4th Dlink DGS1008D (256kb) in 6 minutes 12 seconds costing £55

    5th Belkin F5D5141UK8 (256kb) in 6 minutes 14 seconds costing £70

    6th Netgear GS608 (128kb) in over 30 minutes costing £30

Re: Very poor speeds with Netgear GS605

I use GS108/5's and had one fail that i fixed by following this http://www.mccambridge.org/blog/2008...netgear-gs108/
I have 9 devices on my lan and I get transfer speeds of 100-200Mbit/s depending on file sizes.
