    £400-500 New Rig Advice.

Been using a REVO for about 2 weeks as my main PC and its too slow for me. I want to build some thing small, cute and quiet. Don't want it to play games but I do want it to have full HD HDMI out if possible. Most importantly I need it to be v fast! Will be used for web development, photoshop, virtual box, 100s of open tabs in chrome... etc.

Already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard and win7 so just need to budget for the rig.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: £400-500 New Rig Advice.

Very much the system I built for my OH's uncle recently, apart from I used a passive graphics card and different hard drive:

    AMD Athlon II X2 240, Regor Core, Socket AM3, 2.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 65W, Retail £44.52
    Asus M4A78LT-M LE, AMD 760G, S AM3, DDR3 1800(OC), SATA 3Gb/s, SATA RAID, MicroATX, Onboard Graphics £56.52
    4GB (2x2GB) CorsairTwinX DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered 84.99
    550W Corsair CMPSU-550VXUK, ATX, PS/2, 5 year Warranty £65.76
500 GB Western Digital WD5000AAVS Caviar Green, SATA 3Gb/s, IntelliPower, 8MB Cache, NCQ £36.94
    Power Color HD 4850, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 1900MHz GDDR3, GPU 625MHz, 800 Cores, DL DVI-I/ HDMI/ D-Sub £80.96
    Coolermaster Elite 341, Black, micro-ATX Case w/o PSU 30.49

    Total: £400.18

Assuming Windows 7 installation using USB pen, otherwise add on £18 or so for an dvd writer

EDIT: Some of those items are on Today Only and the saving is about £10

I would get the Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB HDD - it is super quiet and fast - and about £35 on scan Today only with free sata cable thrown in

This has 785G integrated graphics which can support one monitor with a digital input and another with an analogue input simultaneously.

    8GB 1333MHZ DDR3 ~ £170

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179278

    Samsung F3 500GB ~ £36

    http://www.scan.co.uk/TodayOnly/Index.aspx

    SATA DVD writer ~ £15:

    OCZ 400W StealthXStream PSU ~ £40

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152505

The PSU is made by CWT.

The total comes to around £479 to £488 excluding postage.

The OP can get free postage from Scan:

    Edit!!

The OP should only get 8GB of RAM if they have Windows 7 64 bit.If they have the 32 bit version they should get 4GB instead.

Thanks Like the look of the Antec Mini-P180 White. Any suggestions on where I can buy the RAM from or a alternative? Ebuyer are sold out.

This one should do the job:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/180490

If you are not overclocking run this RAM at 1333MHZ using the lowest latencies possible as this the optimal configuration for a Phenom II and Athlon II at stock speeds AFAIK.

    Re: £400-500 New Rig Advice.

I'd go for at least 8GB and definitely Windows 7 x64. The OP doesn't say just how heavily they're using the system, but if multiple virtual machines and heavy use of Photoshop (very large pictures) are necessary 4GB may be quickly eaten.

Everything you listed CAT plus a standard wifi card. 8gb RAM, 500gig...

Not tweaked the RAM settings like you suggested yet, will I find that in the BIOS?
