Thoughts on SKT 775/ DDR3 motherboards?

    e.g. GA-EG41MFT-US2H

    There are others too.

Is there likely to be any real advantage?

Maybe when the intel processor prices fall a bit further and ddr3 is uniformly cheaper than ddr2?

    Your thoughts are welcomed.

It depends what you are gonig to use it for. TBH off the top of my head I can't think of a reason.
At the low end/mid range you'll get a better system for less bying an AM3 system. At the mid-high end, you are better off going 1156/1366.

I have a Socket 775 DDR3 system as per the my system specs but TBH these days I think AMD are unbeatable at this level.

Advantages of ddr3 over ddr2 on socket 775 = virtually none.

The cost of ddr3 overtakeing ddr2, going to be a while, atm ddr2 prices have stared dropping slightly, ddr3 prices are still holding steady so far there are no signs this if going to change much.
The price of new ddr2 will start to go up but not yet and the prices of 2nd hand ddr2 will be dropping.

The prices of ddr3 should start dropping but atm they've gone up to there current values and they show no signs of dropping any time soon.

You have to remember that a couple of years back the market was flooded with cheap ddr2, then the economic colapse hit, many of the chip makers who where produceing chips only just over the production costs hit problems.
We're not going to see any major shifts as all the surviving chip makers are now being very cautious with their priceing.

Re: Thoughts on SKT 775/ DDR3 motherboards?

I presume it would be easier to rack up the FSB with DDR3 since the clock speeds are so much higher... I kept hitting a wall at around 1100MHz with my DDR2 when I was overclocking my machine a while back if I remember correctly.

But anyway, I wouldn't touch a 775 board these days - AM2+/AM3 is the way to go.

You would only need one if you are really trying to push your core 2 duo and want to run the fsb alot faster than the ram.

Skt 775 is still eol though.
