This has got me thinking. Is it possible to make a processor out of anything?
Well yes in theory you can, all a cpu does is make lots of y/n style calculations very quickly.
If I remember correctly the i7 has 731million transistors, each transistor acts as a y/n logic gate.
However if you're talking about the material used within a cpu construction then no, carbon and sliicon are rather special both in ther ability to chemically combine into very large molecules, the number of molecules that can be made from them and (most importantly for this) their semi-conductor nature.

graphite's always been an interesting one to use due to its ability to conduct electricity, meaning that the electrons in this case will move significantly faster. carbon based electronics are most likely to be the way forward due to carbons ease of manipulation. i cant wait to have my 64 core 1THz processor in the not too distant future!

Sure you could, you'd need a very large hard cheese and some very good carving skills.
You can make mechanical logic gates, carve lots of channels, fit mechanical logic gates and drop in a load of marbles.
It's just not going to be able to make millions of calculations per second and overclocking would probably involve greaseing a cheese.

I think the use of light is perhaps another possible avenue for CPUs. I remember reading something about this!!
Can anybody shed some "light" on the matter!!
