Right then. This is a bit of a bump. I am now back in Blighty and want to know if the suggestions in this thread are still relevant, or if I can get myself something better...What about the new nForce3 boards?

Yeah, definitely still relevant. A64 is all a bit up in the air at the moment so the best bet is a 35W 2400+ based system & The NF7-S

If you're going to get a pair of raptors, there's no point getting a silent PSU.

Personally, I'd go with an Antec Sonata case + 2 Samsung drives if you want something quiet but still nice/reasonably cheap.

Aye, iirc Raptors make quite a bit of noise when seeking.
Go for 2 Samsungs like Aaron says, it'll be well worth it

You might want to look at the 1500+ mobile processors from CPUCity. I've heard they overclock by over a gig and are a snip at under £30. Oh, wait, I bought the last one The 1600+ is meant to be good as well mind.

for the CPU. NF7 i suppose you can get from wherever you get the rest of the stuff from.
I think all of them sold nowadays will be a rev 2.0

http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...cPath=28_29_31 - look for the ones with M after the name. The NF7Sv2 is the board you want. It's worthwhile going for the S version over the normal one.

    Fantastic 550w cwt/meridian psu

450w is cheaper if you dont need so much juice I have it, its great http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...roductID=59491

Mobile 2500 barton- Will clock to at least 2.4 most likely more with decent cooling. http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...roducts_id=392

Need a cooler? http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...roducts_id=318 that should allow maximum overclocking of the barton.

    Dont forget the AS5 http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...roducts_id=363

You want the nf7-s v2.0- important you get that one! http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...products_id=45

Right now is a really bad time to be buying ram as a major producer *cough* bodged a load of wafers- more like the major manafacturers have all come together to keep prices artifically high v but its gota be 2 512mb sticks of at least 3200. Im not to up on my ram but i think the price performance ratio king is still TwinMos and crucial.

Buying a new graphics card right now, the 9800pro is the best choice imo. get a nice- new stock card that can be flashed with an xt bios

Two samsung hard disks for raid0 quiet and fast and not too pricey.

You can pick up a decent dvd writer for around £50 now i think- im sure someone will have some good reccomendations.

Your looking for new stock of 9800pro's. The recently built cards use the newer r360 core instead of the original r350. Its mostly 128mb cards with the newer r360 xt core iirc as they dont make many 256mb cards- less demand i assume.

I got mine from scan but they have sold that batch now. I have just seen a sapphire 256mb card at scan http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=123362
thats a possible. If you post in the support forum i think they will be able to tell you either way.

If you can get a card that will flash its worth bearing in mind that the cooling will need upgrading- rev1,2, or 3 arctic silencer cooler will do the job, doesnt matter which revision, 2 and 3 just fit aiw cards, no performance increase.

See if the card runs at xt speeds core 312 and mem 360 iirc- if so then give it a flash . The bios you need depends on the card- what type of memory, samsung is preferable and also if its 128 or 256mb.

Layzeh has a guide to flashing on his website.... video cards you understand

How quiet do you want the PSU? The CWT ones are quiet compared with generic PSUs but they're far from hush-quiet. My Enermax is the loudest thing in my rig right now and you can hear it whilst playing DVDs even at minimum revs. If I were buying another one I'd look at the Nexus 120mm fan PSUs or the SilenX ones.
