    Strange power on issue

Occasionally when turning my pc on all the lights come on but nothing seems to happen. the processor heatsink fan doesn't fire up, the hard drives don't respond and the monitor doesn't come on, however after pressing the reset button everything fires up fine and the pc starts as normal. any suggestions as to what could be causing this? my initial thoughts were due to the overclock as if i disable that it seems to be fine. the only other idea i've got is that its the psu but not having another one to check I cant be too sure.

I think it is the overclock too. It happens if I get a bit ambitious with either the FSB or the RAM speed. Think your PSU is probably fine.

quite strange though how it sometimes doesn't start first time and is fine after pressing the reset button tho

    Re: Strange power on issue

Sounds like the motherboard has a cold boot problem, which could be PSU related, look at the voltages on +3.3v, 5 and 12v rails using speedfan in windows and see if they are within tollerance.

You could perhaps, if it's annoying you greatly try updating the BIOS to the latest version if you haven't done so already. Other than that I am not sure.

I have had a case with a faulty power button before, believe it or not but with that nothing EVER happened when the power button was pressed. I found this out from connecting the reset button to the power button header on the motherboard but the case was damaged in transit and it was packaged exactly the same as how it arrived to me from OcUK - LOL. It was an Akasa Genesis case that cost about 15 quid and OcUK wanted postage to send it back etc so I just said to them scrap the case so they did and they refunded me despite the damage which I saw in photos via e-mail.
