£600-800 PC, newbie help

Well this is my one of my first posts, and will probably be my most important post I make, So I might as well say hi first. Now I am in need of some help on building a Gaming rig for around £600-800 I know a bit about computers just not what sort of things I should choose.

I'm looking to play games such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, Empire Total War and EVE Online on high with a decent fps, I have done a little legwork myself and come up with:

The total sits at £593.09 which is dead on centre of my budget I'm pretty sure it is DX11 supported, all I really want to know is it capable of what I want it to do above? I was thinking of maybe going with an AMD proccesor because they are cheaper but I've heard that they don't hold up against an i5.

I will look into overclocking it as well in the future, many thanks Hexus, sorry if this is the wrong board. :bowdown:

If you were running the CPU at stock speeds it looks a nice build. You could always get a Phenom II X4 955 and a 785G motherboard and put the £40 into an HD5830 as this should be between £160 to £180 when it is released in the next week or two.

The motherboard has a 4+1 phase VRM so it is not ideal for overclocking the Core i5 750 massively but if you are using stock voltage(or a slight voltage bump) it should be fine I think but I would make sure that you attach a fan or some heatsinks to the VRM section. I would also investigate how far you could push a Core i5 750 using only the stock cooler too.

Well Overclocking is not essential, I just want to make sure it will run most of games available today on high with a good fps, as I don't want to be spending £700 and get a glorified toaster.

Oh and I admit I am a little bit of a graphics whore when it comes to eye candy.

I would wait a bit then until the HD5830 has been released in the next few or so.

Anyway some of the bits you have listed are out of stock anyway.

Ok no problem, I'm not a huge rush if I'm honest, Phenom II X4 955 CPU and a 785G MoBO and with the £40 spare from the CPU get a HD 5830 when they are released.

I would also look on Ebuyer and Novatech too and with latter retailer you can get cashback from Quidco and TopCashBack on purchases. You maybe able to get a Core i5 750 on special offer too and sometimes the RAM can be much cheaper on Novatech and Ebuyer when compared to Scan.
