Would this make a difference or more hassle than it's worth

i dunno why, but had a thought .

was sat staring at my case (nothing better to do for some reason), and got thinking about air flow.

now i have a tt armor case, with intake at bottom and extract halfway on back (with h50 rad). now the intake blows across the the 2 hdd's and then over the to the gfx. so unless i'm wrong (and i belive i might be) the rad fan is sucking any warmish system air left over through it.

so idea no.1 - move the switch plate up and fab a fan bracket at work to fit as another intake to take air straight over to the rad fan. have 5 drive bays but only two used - dvd & switch/indicator bracket, so got 3 spare which i reckon that i can get another fan in there.

and idea no.2 - there is already a fan cutout in the side window of my case. firstly fit say a 92mm (or smaller) fan to the window coupled to a 3" to 2 1/2" reducer attcached to some 32mm flex-conduit, this is then attached (i don't know how yet) to the gfx. in wso allowing the the gfx to suck in fresh untainted air.

now this would be i don't know what yet, gonna be upgrading the gfx in a couple of months now or so of course it wouldn't be done to the new one........................................................



i know what it'll be now.........................an experiment, but would it make much difference in air flow and thermals?

I don't wish to diss your ideas but it sounds a lot of trouble for what might only turn out to be a couple of degress c improvement at best on the cpu temps.

The conduit to the gfx card might work but it could be a right so and so to get it to fit sufficiently well so as to only suck in air from out side the case. A lot depends on the cooler design i believe some suck air in from lots of different directions as fitting them in sli for example restricts airflow from the front so they need air from elsewhere, at least i believe this to be the case.

You could try fitting the H50 in the front of the case though i suspect it might only make a couple of degrees difference at best to the cpu temp too. But it might be a lot easier than modding other stuff to try and get "fresh" air to the rear of the case.

The Antec Sonata used to have a built in air guide that could suck cool air in form the back of the case (right at the bottom) and vent it out directly over the GPU and CPU, a bit like you're envisaging with conduit from the side panel. It was incredibly funky, and great fun to work with, but they dropped it from the design in the next revision so I assume they decided it was too much hassle to be worthwhile.

However, it would look pretty funky to have conduited airflow through your case - I think it'd be worth doing just for the unusual appearance (particularly if you can window your case as well so the conduits are visible from the outside). It would be a lot of work though, I think, so if you're just looking for a way to improve your temperatures I think it might be more effort than it would be worth...

not just about temps jim. i do like doing stuff just for the hell of it to. the side panel is already windowed - so no work involves there really. just had a thought, had a few crap cases lying around that an it placed were ditching - and they had tunnels on the sides and they'd have been perfect.............................only problem is we had a clear out just after chrimbo .

so the main thing would be the attachment to gfx. again one of those tunnels would be perfect. why did i let the wife convince me into having a clear out .

if i can get this done, then i think that a coat of black inside and a bit of uv tape on the conduit and water pipes of the h50 and a uv tube will make it look good (hell go the whole hog and uv tape the psu and sata cables to - more dayglo than a strip club.
