Fan Spacing - 15 mm or 25 mm?

    Hey folks,

I am considering buying myself a moutainmods case to give myself a case that wouldn't need updating for years to come. On the site they give the option for 15 or 25 mm fan spacing on their panels. Since I'd be importing to the UK it carries a hefty price so I'd need to get everything before taking the plunge.

The spacing I assume relates to water cooling options in terms of radiators.

Although I have read up a fair bit on WC in general I am unsure as to what vendors are picking each spacing, as well as what the general trend in the industry is moving towards. Is one option becoming more popular over the other and would a particular choice limit me considerably?

Which particular case are you getting? Hard to say what that relates to except that standard fans are usually 25mm thick with extra slim ones being 15mm. So could relate to fan width.

All of the standard rads you purchase today are 15mm spacing (the gaps between one set of holes and the next)
The 25mm spacing was used on the ThermoChill rads only.
ThermoChill have now stopped using 25mm and use the industry standard of 15mm.
Have a look through all of these (15mm)

    I have a MM case

    http://forums.hexus.net/chassis-syst...sty-4-4-a.html

I have 15mm in the top and 25mm in the front.
Wanted 15mm all around but had the rad already.

Unless you have a ThermoChill rad with 25mm spacing (more than 6months old) then go 15mm.

Re: Fan Spacing - 15 mm or 25 mm?

Not set in my mind yet as I am still waiting for a few components to be released. I was looking at the U2-UFO. I was looking at an option of solid panel sides, original top, black anodized finished and a horizontal motherboard tray.

This admittedly would be a big jump for me as this would be only my second build. I'd likely start off on air and give water a try a little way down the line. I need to invest a bit more time (as is obvious from this post into getting the WC parts right)

I've been looking through cases, finding many that come close but have a few niggles, nothing ticks the boxes or gives you options like those on display at MM.

Only sacrifice is costs, unsure as to how pricey the shipping would be also.

I purchased my case second hand.
The cost of one of these cases is very high (£300 -350 for case + takes + shipping)
    Have a look on ebay.
    The ufo does come along.
The case is massive but designed by idiots.
Have a look around the threads.

This will give you an idea.

Most people go with the silverstone TJ07

Re: Fan Spacing - 15 mm or 25 mm?

Thanks for the links, the TJ07 is a good choice I saw for WC builds, option of 2 rad locations, oodles of space and a high number of fan placements. The PSU I have coming my way may have a few issues with regards to cable length in that though, have a Seasonic X coming tomorrow and the length on those is around 570mm. The case itself is 560 tall. It might even be a limiting factor in the UFO, which is 450 x 450 x 450, Is only 100mm to play with after all from end to end.

I am surprised MM haven't come up with an airflow design similar to the Fortess 02, bottom to top. Dust filters are also another thing although these could be purchased and implemented at extra cost.

Just purchase cable extensions for the PSU
