    cpu a & b grade

I am just about to order a B arton 2500+ and would like to know how important a & b grade chips are and how it is possible to ensure you get the right one (or is it just "pot luck")

    b grade chips?

Where are you planning on getting them from?

I am looking at one or two suppliers but I will probably be using cpu-city since I discovered they are about half a mile down the road! I do not mean that the supplier is offering sub-standard stock what I am reffering to is what has been talked about in the o/c forum I believe it is something to do with the code on the chip being ###A or###b and one or the other is better for o/cing.
perhaps reffering to it as B "grade" is misleading.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to the diff between the 2 Tbred revisions. TbredA has 1 extra layer than Pally and runs much cooler thanks to the 0.13mu process. However it needed 2 extra layers (9 total) in order to prevent cross-talk and enable the high clock speeds (> 1.8ghz or XP2200+). TbredA can be AUIHA or JUIHA (for example) while TbredB can be AUIHB or JUIHB, so the last letter denotes the A or B, with B being MUCH more desirable as you should hit 2.1ghz easily and these chips always come unlocked! Barton is basicly TbredB but with double the L2 cache meaning roughly a 5% speed increase at the same clock speed. AFAIK there is no discernable diff between Barton like there was in TbredA vs TbredB.
