Good enough for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare?

    MSI 790FX-GD70, AMD 790FX, AM3, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 1800(OC), 1600(OC), 1333, SATA II/RAID, ATX £129.21

    Acer V243HBD Black Full HD 1080P, Widescreen LCD, 1920x1080, 40,000:1 DCR, 300 cd/m², 2ms,VESA £151.15

    Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Retail (Green) 32 & 64 Bit £91.73

LiteOn IHOS104-37 4xBlu-Ray, 8x DVD Reader OEM inc Software £52.04

    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP £85.99

    1GB XFX HD 4890 OC, PCI-E 2.0(x16), 3900MHz GDDR5, GPU 870MHz, 800 Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/ HDTV, HDCP £149.79

Coolermaster Elite 334 Black Midi Tower Case w/o PSU £27.03

    1TB Western Digital WD10EARS, Caviar Green, 64Mb Cache 8ms £65.32

    Total £886.76 inc delivery.

    Anything I've missed?
Feel free to tear it apart! I really need your help.
System will also be used for photo editing and DVD to Ipod conversion.
    Thanks

Do you need to have Crossfire and do you intend to overclock the CPU or not??

Also what PSU do you intend to get??

Also you can get cheaper HD4890 cards too.

Re: Good enough for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare?

Unless you intend to use crossfire in future, I'd save some pennies on the motherboard. 790GX, 785GX or 770 chipsets could all offer fair old cost saving. Some of them offer dual 8 lane crossfire too.

    Oops, how about: 850W Corsair CMPSU-850TXUK, ATX, 4x PCI-E/ 8x SATA, PS/2 PSU, £96.64.
Yes, I would like to attempt some limited overclocking.
I would like to leave the option open for crossfire, do you think it would make a noticeable difference?

Re: Good enough for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare?

If you don't mind having a motherboard which does Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X then you could save enough money to get an HD5850 into the build. The HD5850 has better performance over the HD4890 and lower power consumption and also has DX11.

Ok, didn't do that much research - what difference would "a motherboard which does Crossfire at PCI-E 2.0 8X" make?

    This review will be helpful:

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...caling/26.html

For a pair of HD5870 cards it would be not more than 1% to 2% it seems.

Re: Good enough for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare?

Just a point to note, if you want for a 1680x1050 22" monitor you could cut down a bit on the graphics card since native res is lower (or keep the graphics card and turn everything to high )
Also, I play MW2 at native 1680x1050 on my X2 4600+ (stock) with 2GB of RAM (DDR1!) and a 8800GT, so you will have no problems on that PC!

CAT.. can i just make 1 suggestion? that 4890 you've suggested is stupidly loud and as soon as i can afford to i'm changing the heatsink on it. you might want to suggest something different.

The OP could go back to the HD4890 they listed before then!!

However the cooler looks different from the reference one so I cannot say whether it is quiet or not!!

There is also this reference model HD4890 on svp:
