Question Opinion on gaming keyboard & mouse

In my bedroom I have two computers sharing a monitor via vga/dvi inputs. They each have their own keyboard & mouse. Audio from both is plugged into a hi-fi system centred around a Pioneer A400 amplifier.

One of the machines is an old socket A machine which I use mostly to play old games on in Win 98 like Quake, Hexen II, Nocturne, Shadowman and other games from that era.

I'm using a Logitech cheapie wireless mouse/keyboard combo with it atm but they really aren't very good at all for fps's so I figure I'll upgrade them.

I've done a lot of browsing and decided to try something different from my usual Logitech choices and would apreciate anybody's opinion on these two:

    Roccat Arvo Gaming Keyboard

    Steel Series Kinzu Gaming Mouse

These peripherals don't have to be state of the art as I don't game online with this machine and all the games are old games. In fact the keyboard for the price is probably something of an extravagence but I'm curious and the compact size is a bonus.

I have a couple of Logi G5's and a Logi G5 keyboard on other machines atm and I like Logitech a lot but would like to try something different.

I've tried a couple of Razer mice in the past and didn't get on with them at all.

I don't like Microsoft keyboards much compared to Logitech but I've no idea what their gaming mice are like.

I have two of These mousemats(Steel Series SX), one in each room which will be used with the new mouse.

So, any comments and opinions apreciated

Waste of money which provides no better input than generics a fraction of the cost.

Re: Opinion on gaming keyboard & mouse

I'm getting the Roccat Arvo tomorrow for review. Want me to let you know once my review is up? It'll probably be written at the weekend if I feel I've used it enough by then.

    I liked that mouse.

Your POV taken on board but I'd disagree to a certain extent.

My Logi G15 certainly outperforms my media and another generic Logi when used for gaming.

Whether the performance/price ratio stands up to scrutiny is another matter though.

Matty: For sure, please PM me with a link when you've written your review.

And sorry, but as I mentioned above I didn't get on with Razer mice at all in the past.

Re: Opinion on gaming keyboard & mouse

Both the Xai and Kinzu has serious positive acceleration problems that still hasn't been fixed until today. That says a lot (or little) about a gaming hardware company that sells poorly engineered hardware. Doesn't matter if you're not playing games competitively though.

I would buy a cheap microsoft intellimouse 3.0 or wheel mouse optical and use the spare money to buy a proper keyboard like filco majestouch tenkeyless with cherry brown keyswitches from keyboardco.com
Expensive yes, but it's going to be the last keyboard you ever buy.

For somthing with a slightly different I would say the Gigabyte M6880. Bit more expensive than when I got mine but for the £11 I paid i carnt be happier with it. Also has a smaller optical brother too the M6800 for £8.

Re: Opinion on gaming keyboard & mouse

I really liked the M6800 as a basic gaming mouse, my only issue with it was the light weight and hollow feel to it.
However I fixed thoes with a simple mod.
Of course I later donated it to project spork and did a custom paint job on it.

Annoyingly gigabyte where making a gaming keyboard to go with thoes mice, The GK-K8000, but I'm not sure it ever saw the light of day well I never saw it retail any place in the UK.

Re: Opinion on gaming keyboard & mouse

In the end I went with the Logitech G500 mouse and a Saitek Eclipse II keyboard.

Both of these items I purchased from PC World from their 'Collect-in-store' online ordering service.

The main reason I went with these choices was PC World, unusually, had priced them very competitively, £43.00 for the mouse and £30.00 for the keyboard. And of course no postage charge.

I'm very happy with both purchases, especially the G500, it's really quite fantastic

In fact I put the G500 on my main machine and the Win 98 machine has the G5 that came off of it.

Was a helluva job, incidentally, to get the USB G5 to work in Win 98 but that's par the course for a 12-year-old OS I suppose.

To those who replied, thanks for feedback, apreciated.
