    Booting problems

Got all my new bits and everything has been running fine for days now, until I ventured into some light overclocking... Any ideas as to what could cause a repeated loop of power on for 3-4 seconds then restarting? Tried restarting CMOS, using various combinations of memory modules and removing a graphics card... Nothing yet has worked. Any clues?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Did you take the CMOS out or just use the jumpers ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Took out the battery for 10s. Front panel headers are all fine... Don't even have a reset button on this case!

    Re: Booting problems

Currently have it at least running using only the bottom graphics card and one screen. Had a couple of BSODs, though. This is with BIOS at auto/stock.

    Re: Booting problems

Interesting, running only 1 GPU was a temporary solution at best. I've now fiddled around with the RAM/different slots and I only seem to get BSODs and failed boot ups when a stick is in the second slot (mobo manual recommends populating slots #2 and #4 first). Will putting the sticks in the 1st and 3rd slots actually make much of a difference, given the manual suggests otherwise?

I'm testing stability now. Both sticks have survived well in the 4th slot which is how I've concluded it is an issue with the slot, rather than the RAM itself.

Next up is to try putting the GPU back in.

In the second slot, I had all sorts of problems - failing to boot, the following BSODs: ntfs.sys, tcpip.sys, page fault in non paged area, irq not less or equal, system service exception and a couple more that I didn't write down.

EDIT: just noticed triple post - sorry for the bad form but a bump never hurt anyway.

    Re: Booting problems

Sounds like an RMA on the mainboard
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Re: Booting problems

Very annoying seeing as that would leave me computerless...

However, I plugged the top graphics card in and that caused the restarting issues to happen again (restarting before even getting to BIOS) which happened on my 775 motherboard. I then upgraded and all was fine, but now the problem has started again. This leads me to believe 3 things:

    1) The "faulty" 775 mobo was actually a result of the dodgy graphics card (although I'm sure I tested for this. More testing on that being done over the weekend)

    2) The RAM slot #2 has suddenly become dodgy (odd that the issue waited for a couple of days to arise?)

    3) I have a very temperamental graphics card which might be going on ebay as faulty in due course.

EDIT: tried filling slots #1 and #3 but turns out that they've died as well. So I have an entire one working RAM slot :/

Time to fill in another motherboard related RMA...
