Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

I would look at an HD5570 GDDR3 or the low profile version of the 9600GT Green Edition as these are both low profile graphics cards.

Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

Yup, should be fine with a 5570, if you can find one in stock - beware, as there are some non-low-profile 5570s turning up now that you'll need to avoid. Something like this Sapphire from Scan @ £70 is what you're after.

But, if it's just as a temporary measure, it might be worth getting a low profile 4650 instead, which has about 25% lower performance, but about 40% low price!

Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

The problem is that the HD4650 tends to use DDR2 RAM and not faster DDR3 or GDDR3 RAM meaning it has much lower performance than an HD4670.

Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

I know, I was just throwing it out there as a cheaper possibility if the OP is just looking for something to "make do" for the time being.

Sparkle have also recently announced low profile, passive versions of the GT220 and GT240, which might be of interest, but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere. Certainly if the OP is looking for the best possible performance from a low profile card, the 5570 is the one to go for...

Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

great stuff.. I actually own a HD4670 already, runs to check to see if it is low profile.. the HD4650 is probably enough indeed for awhile if this card isn't right or got fried aswell.

Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

No HD4670 low profile cards were made for retail AFAIK.

    The HD4650 DDR2 is around the same speed as a 9500GT GDDR3:

    Bleuh, what's low profile then?
    I'm going to guess small.

It means that the graphics card is half height.

Re: Most powerful low profile video card I can use?

I've said it before I'll say it again, sparkle's low profile gts250
Yes it's double slot, but it is still low profile.
Although the 220w psu might be an issue.
