recommend me a sata 2.5 for my lappy

    hello all

i currently have a western digital WD3200BEVT which i think its slow on startup loading time and just general laoding of apps, games but specially every now and than windows 7 and HD take about 5 mins on loading something after boot or installing and uninstalling of programs.

so i,m looking for a faster HD basically same size or slightly bigger if better value for money, but it really have to be faster.

    i came across this:

320GB WesternDigital WD3200BJKT Scorpio Black, is this any good?

    any recommendations please?

    thanks

Depends on what's more important: speed, money or amount of storage, and what you would consider "value."

My opinion: Intel X25-V 40GB SSD - £96.98 from CCL.

Perhaps not appropriate if you have more than just a couple of games though.

    Defrag?
7200rpm will kill battery life but boot performance, scorpio blue or black depending on rpm requirements..

If you have the dough the Hitachi 500gig 7k500 travelstar is currently the fastest single mobile drive on the market.

Obviously faster then that would be a SSD drive.

Re: recommend me a sata 2.5 for my lappy

i think i'll opt for the WD black, i have defrag and keep my system tidy.

its really strange with my current HD, it loads up windows and afterwards it still there seeking like is loading million things on taskbar which is not the case since i only have 7 items and using ESET AV which is pretty light compare to the rest. it doesn't do it all the time.

plus i had some lets say interesting experiences with those deathstars

I would have thought you're current HDD would be perfectly adequate for the task. Perhaps a bit of housekeeping such as regulare defrag etc could save you the expense of a new drive

I'd agree with that - the drive quoted would seem to be plenty fast enough - the problem is likely to be elsewhere. If you were thinking ogf cloning the disk to the replacement, you may end up replicating the same problem. If you were intending to re-install the OS, why not just do that anyway - at worst, you will be no worse off, at best, you will have saved the cost of a disk.

Re: recommend me a sata 2.5 for my lappy

    hi

thanks for the suggestions, i have gone down that route tbh to save the expense but it was no good.

i know its better than vista but its really annoying when you do something and than the pc ust kind of goes on one.

i will be doing a frsh installation as there is a lot of crap on there so i thought it would be good to do it all at once.

the other dilemma as the original HD cames with recovery partition when te times comes to put vista back or recovery, i stupidly changed that parition to ntfs from fat32. manufacturer want £100 to put that parition back. in my case i have my Win 7 cd so not bothered about vista but when if i sell it in the future it maybe a problem.

so now do i split the parition on installing the new 320 or use the entire 320?

    Thanks
