Gutted me laptop seems broke what do u think is the problem ?
Hi I own a M1710.. Last night while I was surfing the web the screen went blank. I rebooted and I noticed all these hazy lines. Then the next screen loaded with some green boxes. It refuses to load to windows and displays a blank screen and am forced to shutdown
Any ideas on what the problem might be ?

How old is it?
Were these not part of the list of ones effected by the nvidia graphics chip bugs where the card used to over heat?
Re: Gutted me laptop seems broke what do u think is the problem ?
could well be, i would remove the heatsinks, clean them up and apply some decent paste.

Graphics card was replaced about 7 months a go with a new one by Dell. Thing is tho I havent gamed with this laptop and even had it on a fan mat thing
Its out of warranty now as well :-(
Re: Gutted me laptop seems broke what do u think is the problem ?
It sounds like something to do with the GPU or it's memory.
However, it's unrelated to the Nvidia bug, the so called bad bumps only affected the 8000 series and beyond, e.g. 8400M GS. Googling around, the M1710 appears to be equipped with the a NV 7900 series GPU.
This is possibly related to another Nvidia bug, where a relatively recent driver release caused GPUs to over heat and sometimes die, I'm not sure if it affects mobile parts though.
If you feel the machine isn't reasonably aged, you should call Dell and have it repaired under the SoGA. Dell repaired my out of warranty machine free of charge when I invoked the SoGA, give it a try.
