Best solution to handle up to 16 cameras (surveillance)

Hi All,

First thing first, sorry If I posted this in the wrong section.

I am planning to upgrade my old surveillance system which operates with 11 cameras at the moment.

I have an old DVR device with a 160GB HDD but I'm not happy with the management interface, operation, etc.

As I have concluded that I have two options:

1.) buying a new device which is more user friendly and has more sophisticated networking features

2.) building a computer for the purpose with a dedicated card.

So I would like to ask for any advise on these topics including recommendation for good retailers where I will be able to find good products and assistance.
