    Which Cooler For i5 750?

    These are the contenders:
    1. Noctua U12P-SE2 @ £54
    2. Megahalems @ £46
    3. Corsair Hydro H50 @ £62

Im looking for the best performer really along with quiet operation. I've read loads of reviews and TBH they all perform pretty well. The H50 however I'm quite concerned about, too many conflicting stories!

Im swaying towards the Noctua at the moment as it comes with 2 quality fans along with the HS.

Opinions? Feel free to add any coolers that you might recommend

    Cheers in advance.

Re: Which Cooler For i5 750?

I love the Titan Fenrir - although its around half the price of those you are looking at so it's great value but perhaps in the segment lower than you are looking.

Theres a review on Bit-tech that puts it ahead of the NH-U12 though, and the Xmas edition that I have definitely comes with 1156 bracked (I think theres a rev.2 of the normal edition which does as well now)

    Edit: Links

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Titan...1366-K8-AM2-AM
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Titan...-K8-AM2-AM3%29

They do both come with 1156 now it seems, the Xmas edition is just you know, RED!!!

Re: Which Cooler For i5 750?

I'm hoping to get the Hydro at some point this month.

Most reviews point it to be better than most out there, even the Hexus review of it iirc. But it is the more pricey option.

Re: Which Cooler For i5 750?

Sometimes I hate shopping for coolers! I've been reading reviews for about a week now!

Thanks all for your input. The only thing I have with the megahalem is that it already costs £46 and on top of that I would need a decent fan for it, so that would add an extra £10 - £15 for a decent one. The noctua however comes with 2 P12 fans which are excellent as I had them before in a different case, so that puts it a decent price.

With the H50 I'm not sure if I would need a different fan to replace the Corsair one. Its too expensive and I dont know if it would be worth it? If im spending £60+ on a cooler I want to know I'm getting the best performance (of what it is).

@ Champman99, quick question for ya! Could I add any 120mm fan on the Fenrir? Seems like a good price that.
EDIT: Also, whats the stock fan like? In terms of noise and CFM. Cheers

How far are you planning to overclock? There wont be more than 5c difference between the top coolers, so unless you plan to overclock to insane levels, simply pick the one that best fits your budget/acoustic requirements.

from the reviews I've seen the Zalman appeared to be the best one in both cooling and noise.

TBH not much, maybe a mild clock on the 750 when needed (i.e converting video files etc)

Yeah I'm pretty sure you could add any fan you like, although the one it comes with is very decent PWM jobby that adapts well to the conditions. Virtually silent if your temps are low, of course at max speed it gets a bit noisy but thats at a very high RPM and never happens for me.

It just comes with two little metal clips that affix the fan to the heatsink, so I would be pretty sure that you could use any fan, the stock one seems to be standard depth.

You can only fit a fan on one side though, you cant have two in push-pull, the little indents where you affix the clips to are only on one side (that was really fun to find out when I realised I fitted it the wrong way up /facepalm)

I think you'll find Fenrir has very positive reviews across the web, its sort of a halfway house between a very premium cooler like you are looking at (although sometimes better in performance than more expensive coolers), and something like a Freezer 7 which is kind of the minimum an enthusiast would use. I like mine, but then again I dont have a 1156

Re: Which Cooler For i5 750?

Cheers for that Champman, think I'm just gonna go with the Noctua though. There probably wont be too much difference temp wise but with the Noctua its sure to be quieter which will save me having to chage the fan on the Fenrir (well I hope so!).

    Thanks everyone

if your not planning pushing it that hard, then coolermaster hyper 212 plus, can be bought for under £20
    It's copeing very well n my i5 750 @ 3.2ghz fan rarely goes over 600rpm
