phenom II 925 vs phenom II 955 be

apart from the 955 bieng unlocked and higher clocked is there any other difference between those 2 cpu?

if they would be both clocked the same frequencies would they still preform the same aswell?

and would the 925 run gta 4 well?

Re: phenom II 925 vs phenom II 955 be

As you say, the 955 is a Black Edition and is therefore unlocked and higher clocked.

The only other difference I know is that the 955 has is a 125W processor whereas the 925 is only 95W. This means that the 955 is likely to give out a bit more heat than the 925.

If you're not going for overclocking then the 925 is likely to be good, the 955 being a BE CPU would be so easy to overclock just by raising the multiplier.

AFAIK, the 925 should be able to run GTA4 well. However, I see that you have a Q6600 and therefore the performance increase, if it's an upgrade, will be rather small.

If you do want to get a Phenom II based system there are some excellent AM2+ motherboards available on Scan this weeked at relatively low prices:

You could re-use your existing RAM.

OTH,perhaps looking at a suitable motherboard to replace the one you have currently will work out cheaper IMHO.

There's a good P45 on Today Only too, the DFI LANPARTY DK P45-T2RS PLUS for around £61. It's around £62 when not on Today Only but even if Socket 775 is EOL it's still worth it to buy it seeing as P45 motherboards still cost around £80-£100 nowadays. I bought one myself as I'm gonna go for 4770 CrossFire or 5770 CrossFire in the future when I get a new monitor and even a few months down the line I think I'll be able to get around £50 for it easily on eBay.

tbh you're unlikely to see any benefit from a Phenom 2 vs a Q6600 @ 3GHz. What's making you look at them?

Would definitely recommend black edition variants. Easy overclock plus better heatsink
