Time for a new rig

Firstly, apologies for any ignorance on my behalf, its been a long time since I was fully in the loop about hardware, back in the 9800pro days, though I have done some research and came up with the following:


750W Corsair CMPSU-750TX, SLi, Single 12V Rail, Quiet & Cool

Asus Xonar DX/XD 7.1 PCI-E Soundcard Low Profile

4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 Classic, DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V

22" Viewsonic VX2268WM, 3D 120Hz, Wide, Black/Silver, LCD, VGA/DVi, 20000:1, 300cdm2, 1680x1050, 3ms
Considering the Acer GD245HQ, though i heard it has ghosting issues

Coolermaster HAF 922, Black, Mid Tower Case with 20cm Silent Fan, w/o PSU
Completely open to suggestions, to my knowledge this case has good airflow and a hole behind the CPU for ease of HSF installation (Which i think is a big bonus), but the appearance isn't great

Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2, Intel P55 Express, S1156, DDR3 2200, SATA 3Gb/s, SATA RAID, uATX

Intel Core i5 750, Lynnfield 45nm, Quad Core, 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 95W, Retail
Originally planned on a X58-UD3R and i7 920, but there doesn't seem to be a very big performance difference, not enough to warrant the price increase, and I won't be using multiple graphics cards

1GB Asus HD 5850 , PCI-E 2.0 (x16), 4000MHz GDDR5, GPU 725MHz, 1440 Cores, DP/ 2x DVI/ HDMI


Corsair H50-1 Hydro Series High-performance CPU Watercooler, LGA775/1156/1366, AM2/2+/AM3 *NEW V2*
Torn between this and the Titan Fenrir, i am concerned about having such a heavy heatsink though, which is why i chose the H50

Samsung SH-S223C/BEBE 22x DVD±R, 12x DVD±R, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, SATA, Black, OEM

Haven't chosen a hard drive yet, though i've heard good things about the samsung F3 drives. I currently have a 1.5TB drive (as a storage drive, so i won't need more storage space). The only problem is i'm selling my current PC, and i have no way to back up the data before formatting it as my windows drive

Any suggestions, criticism?

H50 is excellent for the money, gives even better results when you use it in push/pull config.

Case : Ive just bought the Corsair 800D, take a look at it, really is an excellent case.

What is the PC being used for??

I would be looking at the Samsung F3 or Western Digital Black series hard drives for a boot drive.

A decent 500W to 650W PSU will be enough for the single graphics card setup you are thinking of getting. Even a PSU like the 450W HX450W would be enough IMHO.

The Phenom II X6 is also coming out in the next two weeks and I would wait until this comes out TBH.

The Phenom II X6 1055T seems to be priced around the same as a Core i5 750(according to leaked prices) but in software which can use multiple cores well is around the same speed as a Core i7 860:

If you get an £80 motherboard like the Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 you will get USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 too:

I would say it's pointless in getting a 120hz monitor really - better to get a bigger monitor for the same price. Unless, that is, you are overly sensitive to refresh rates?

Socket 1155 is replacing socket 1156 and socket 1366 could be EOL at the end of next year too.

Memory wise Ebuyer have www.ebuyer.com/product/158711 for £85.

Cooling: Have a look at the http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Xigma...uad-Core-Ready? Doesnt seem a huge difference it performacne to the Titan and its slightly cheaper too.

Cases: I really like the http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Fract...-inc-Front-I-O but you would need some more fans to improve on its average stock cooling which will push up its price. Also come with a black or silver front door.

Ill put in Pob's suggestion next for a case which is the Lancool K58 www.ebuyer.com/product/195783. To mount the top fans your also need sme special mounting screws it says, but they look easy enough to make yourself. They also do a Lancool K58 www.ebuyer.com/product/195784 which has a side window and the top fans already installed in it.

Finally the Xigmatek UTGARD http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Xigma...r-Case-w-o-PSU looks rather promising and bit-tech rather liked it in their review http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cas...-case-review/1
