Looks good to me. Importantly, the ink cartridges aren't too expensive, which is something a lot of people fail to take into account with inkjet printers.
For joy, apparently, it was all Franny could do to hold the phone, even with both hands.
It's one of my primary concerns

I cannot see reason to use canon ink over printrite ink but then again I don't print photos. I do however always purchase a quality smooth white paper made specifically for inkjet printers. There are differences between the two inks since I now have a 2nd printer with canon ink running along side my existing printer with printrite ink. Colour is more vibrant with the canon ink but printrite is still perfectly adequate for my needs. The printer has not been damaged by the cheap ink and I have not had to replace the print head unit. No problems in 2 years @ 1500+ prints per month.
I have one of these & its brilliant - print quality is far better than my epson & its very fast too. You can get a full set of carts from lord of the deal for it for £6.99 delivered (3 colour & a black)
These are meant to be really nice. Have heard lots of good things about them. And they are cheap to run .
Wish i had one
Got it today. Installed it. Printed the test page and wow. So quiet, so fast. The auto power on-power off feature is a godsend. THis printer absolutely owns!!!
<3 Canon

Apart from the fact that's it's over twice the price of the Canon you're looking at this Epson is by far the best inkjet I've ever seen:
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=58682
it's not actually as good as the canon - it's slower, uses more ink, costs more for ink, is completely buggered if the print head fails..
The canon is slightly lower resolution, but as you pointed out, is cost half the price, if you want something that will better the Epson on all the other points and the resolution, then look at the i990
Needless to say, I'm not going to be going back to Epson for a photo printer again..

Stoo - Well I don't have any experience with the high end canon printers so I can't really come back at you on that one - reviews on the web seem to rave about both and I'm sure they're both top notch printers. I'll have to see if I can get a demo of the Canon I990 as having recently bought an Epson R800 for work I was well impressed with it. For what it's worth both printers are cheaper at www.pixmania.com (but they don't stock the Canon I850 - in fact nowhere I checked sold it as it's being phased out)
canon do a "upload us an image & we'll mail you a printout on your chosen printer" preview service, 'cept it's down atm. http://www.canon.co.uk/yourprint/ should it decide to work.
