NAS or similar...
I'm looking at the possibility of adding a NAS to my home network but I don't have a lot to spend on it.
It wouldn't be for much more than file serving and backups, preferably 2 bay or more so I can get a little extra security with RAID. Can anyone suggest anything?
I've also toyed with the idea of buying a cheap 1u server off ebay, anyone know of any particular pitfalls of going down this route?

Re: NAS or similar...
As for two bay solutions, I went for a ReadyNAS Duo at work - coincidentally, so did my stepdad for his work.
Neither of us have had any problems, both extremely happy with them.
I guess with these things they don't have to do a lot - if you've got no complaints then that's good praise, but if there's anything specific you're interested in then I'll test/find out.

Re: NAS or similar...
I have just started playing witha Zyxel NSA210 from scan, its a single bay, but you can plug a usb hd in to it and it has the option to be in raid with the internal hd. Has been easy to setup, and is resonably quiet. 360 can play films stored on it as well.
I also picked up a hp media vault, this onesb uilt like a tank, has lots of cooling, 2bays, and was cheap, havent decided what to do with it yet. One thing thats made me reconsider raid is the ease of recovery if the unit dies a few years down the road, theres quiet a bit of info for the HP, no so much for the zyxel.
ifyour after dual bay, this was on hitukdeals the other day

They might of gotten rid of them completely by now, but - see if you can find a ReadyNAS Duo in store at currys. I recently picked one up, came with a 500GB drive for a 90 100 quid or so.
