getting sound from digital audio/toslink

Right okay. I have a WD TV Live and I want to get audio from it. Currently my monitor does not have speakers, so what i'm doing is connecting the WD device via HDMI to my monitor, and switch to HDMI when I want to use it.

However I cannot get audio from it. I have a set of 2.1 speakers, that currently connect to my Creative Fatal1ty via 3.5 jack.

I have a Toslink cable with a 3.5mm jack end going from the device, but not sure what to do next to get both audio from the device via digital, and audio from my pc via the 3.5mm jack.

Any ideas?

Is there something like this that I can get to fix sound for both?

You'd need a DAC [digital to analogue converter]*on the end of the TOSLINK to convert from digital to analog audio before you'll be able to hear anything.

Most people would use the Toslink to connect to a multi channel surround amp like one of these[like what I've got]:
