Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
I'm looking for a little reassurance here, though I'm afraid that I might not like the response I get!
My Canon Pixma IP5000 printer was brilliant for the first 2 years, then I got major banding issues and blue streaks across photos... I think the print head is dead. After putting up with it for a couple of years and instead relying on getting photos done by, e.g., Snapfish, I've decided it's time to get a new one.
My scanner doesn't play with Win 7, so I decided to get a all-in-one. Uses will be printing an even mix of b&w prints, colour prints, photos up to A4 and scanning documents like statements, etc (i.e. archiving those documents that end up in a filing cabinet).
My initial target if interest was the Canon MP560... unfortunately I missed the boat when they were selling <£100 a few months back. So I'm looking at the £90-125 price range.
While browsing for options I picked on the half-price deal Lexmark have this month on the Interact S605 and Prestige Pro805, which both use the new touchscreen interfaces. Traditionally I wouldn't touch Lexmark with a bargepole, but the reviews are fairly good (though mixed), and DigitalVersus currently rate the S605 as their top all-in-one.
Subsequently, I've bought a Prestige over the Interact... decision influenced by: supplied with XL tanks, can take the XL105 black ink tank (<£5), document feeder and 5 year warranty (which includes the print heads... won't get burnt like with my Canon). I haven't opened it, so it can still go back. However, I still have a funny feeling about getting a Lexmark. What do you lot think? Anyone have experience of the new Lexmark range?
Re: Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
No one used the new Lexmark printers with the touch screen?
Re: Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
Always been a HP man myself, so don't really have an experience of the Lexmarks.
I would have thought with the 5 year warranty backing it, and the offer you've taken advantage of that there is nothing to lose :)
Re: Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
im a hp man myself like dave. but i recently moved a customer to linux and we had nothing but trouble getting his lexmark printer to work. so if you have any linux boxen in the house you wish to print from that may be an issue. but if your only using either windows or mac then go for it if its a good printer.
Re: Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
I have a lexmark P4350, does print, scan and copy plus photo printing. Bought from Tesco at half price a couple of years back. It is a pretty good printer, images come out clear and precise and not blurry at all.
One thing to note with Lexmark is the price of ink, just had to buy both a new colour and black for mine (33 and 34) cost over £50 for genuine. I did buy some refills from ebay but they were awful and didn`t cut it.
Re: Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
As Barker said, the main complaint noted with Lexmark is the cost of the ink, certainly on the lower end printers.
Just one thing I will say. It won't come close to the photo quality of the Canon Pixma. It just won't. The Pixma is still one of the best photo printers out there, so much so it's hardly been updated since it was originally released, despite rereleasing it every year or so (in the 4x00 and 5x00 guises, the latter of which has been discontinued as was fairly pointless).
Re: Lexmark printer - have I made a mistake?
I've always had epson printers, well I say I have, but my Dad has always had epson and I;ve only ever used his, I don't own a printer because I refuse to pay the high price for replacement inks so I do all my printing on a friend/family members printer.
But with a 5 year warranty with Lexmark I wouldn't worry too much about it to be honest, thats more warranty than you get from any other brand without having to pay for extra on top :)
