Question help with TV + remote control on PC

This is probably really easy, but thought I might as well make sure I've understood this right before I order the wrong stuff:

I don't own a TV, the world cup is almost on us. Rather than pay £700+ for a big TV I thought I could use my computer and buy whatever kit I need for this. Problem is what kit?

    1) Presume all I need is a PCI TV receiver? Or is this not necessary given that they're going to broadcast over the web? Will I need some other kit to receive the web broadcasts?

    2) Been wanting to sort out a remote for the PC so I can play DVDs and pause iplayer, do volume etc from the sofa. The computer is in the lounge but hidden from view so I'd need a remote which has a receiver separate from the unit. Is this achievable? Most of the components I can find assume you're using them in a media PC so have the receiver built into the front of the drive bay.

    Any pointers gratefully received.

Which OS? Media center is built into Vista and 7 and is very good.

What d'you got on your house? Satellite dish? Freeview aerial? Cards can be bought to recieve both and media center will provide you with an EPG (tell guide) automajically. You can even have both - i do

Remotes are dead easy - lots of choice e.g.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Emprex-3009U...058306&sr=8-14

(this works with media center, is RF [no line of sight required] and is dirt cheap]

Re: help with TV + remote control on PC

I'm not sure what input I've got. Def not satellite, and I don't even think we have a TV aerial anymore since the workmen ripped up the roof last year. Hence my query about over-the-web broadcast.

On XP at the moment but this will be going in my new-build system which will be windows 7.
