My computer keeps freezing while trying to install my sound card ?

Just installed Windows 7 32bit. My system isnt overclocked so no stability problems. I own a creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro Series sound card.

I have installed it in my PC and gone to the creative website seen here to download the drivers for it

I have downloaded the top and second drivers from the list. On the main driver it causes my PC to freeze and I have to reset it, or If I manage to install it , it tells me to restart which I do then it freezes while trying to close down.

Any ideas on how I can fix this problem ?

What else have you got installed onto the system? The Creative card is not very compatible with some other PCI cards. That could include wireless adapters, RAID adapters or even TV cards.

The problem is on the label on the card it says Model number SB0460

those cards all look similar.. you may have been scammed a little.. but lets see the card first

ExtremeMusic/Gamer are all the same chip, but there's no such thing as an extreme gamer fatality. There's an extreme gamer, and a fatality, again based on the same chip, but with different features in the rest of the board.

It's the ExtremeAudio that you want to avoid as it's just an audigy.

Guys it's exactly the same as the one in the picture. I have tried to let windows do a update for the driver which it does then it just freezes again.

Am really lost to why it keeps doing it. Think I might install Vista and see if that fixes it, if it doesn't looks like the card is broke? in some way

No mate not tried that.

Ok just to update I installed XP and vista and it still freezes when I instal. Does this sort of mean its the actual card thats broken, or maybe my motherboard ?.. Motherboard seems to boot the carf tho for me to actually install the driver and the light is lit up on the sound card

Any other tests I can do ?

Just make sure you've got a proper drivers. Compare model number, serial number, anything using advancede search on Creative website, as mentioned before, cluttered as hell.

Try installing the drivcers in XP mode from within win 7.

Normally I install Creative driver by extracting the driver package using winrar then manually updating the driver in device manager.

If it does not work it is likely that your card is broken, or it doesn't like being in that PCI slot. If you have another PCI slot to try, give it a go.

Ok guys I downloaded and installed a none creative driver made by daniel_K. I managed to install it know problems :-).... When I install the latest driver for my ATI 5870 tho it causes my PC to blue screen, so it would seem there is some conflict with the sound card and GC.

I tried to install a past driver for my 5870 thinking maybe it might fix it but it didnt. Any ideas on what I can do now ?

Conflict with the sound card in the 5870 then I guess. I don't have the same problem with my 4870, but I suspect there are some options you can change in Windows to specify which card is used for audio if you're outputting over HDMI.
